GhostBlind 6-Panel Runner Blind Review

Ghostblind creates  mirrored hunting blinds  which are unlike any others. Instead of camouflage, the blinds use reflective panels to create a convincing illusion which provides custom concealment. Their Six-Panel Runner Hunting Blind is their flagship model. Here’s a closer look at the pros and cons of this one-of-a-kind blind:

What We Like

A typical blind uses camouflage print to fool passing game, but not the blinds from Ghostblind. Instead, they utilize mirrored panels. When you place the blind on the ground, the panels  perfectly reflect the surrounding environment , creating custom camouflage.

At first, I figured using the blind would be a pain. But no precise adjustments or special setup is required. The reflective panels have a pre-set forward tilt which always reflects the ground in front of the blind. No matter where you are, the blind will blend in perfectly with the surrounding environment, because the images are the surrounding environment!

My next thought was that certainly, passing game would run away or otherwise behave strangely around the mirrors. But it turns out  game has to be within four feet of the blind to see itself . Additionally, the tilt prevents the mirrors from reflecting the sun or sky.

Another interesting benefit of this blind is how easy it is to use. Most blinds need to sit in one spot for at least a few hours so game in the area will become used to their presence. However, the Ghostblind blind doesn’t need an adjustment period.

Because it reflects the natural surroundings, game typically won’t notice anything different about their surroundings. After the Ghostblind is in place, game simply can’t see it.

The blind is  98 inches wide by 26 inches high . It folds down to just 26 by 16.5 inches. When folded, it weighs just eight pounds and includes a 1.5-inch carry strap for easy transportation.

Most blinds, especially spider hub blinds, are easy to set up. But Ghostblind takes easy setup to a whole new level. I’ve never used a blind which was faster to put into position than this one. I had it up and operational in less than a minute!

At first, I was concerned this blind would be too fragile. But these mirrors aren’t like the ones you’ll find in your house. Instead, the reflective panels are  made from unbreakable plastic . They’re also waterproof and scratch resistant.

Pros Summary

  • Mirrored design provides adaptive camouflage
  • Lightweight and easy to carry
  • Ultra-fast setup
  • Durable, waterproof and scratch resistant

What We Wish was Different

You have to sit on the ground to use this blind . Chairs and stools are too high, and game will see you easily. While sitting on the ground isn’t usually a big deal if the weather is dry and warm, it can certainly be uncomfortable in wet and snowy conditions.

Another problem hunters might have with this blind is that it’s not designed for traditional or compound bows. You’ll be far too visible when aiming.

Instead, the blind is  only for hunters who use guns or crossbows . You’ll rest the gun or crossbow across the top of the blind before firing.

Unfortunately, at 26 inches, the blind is pretty short. Even when sitting, your torso and head might be visible. Most people will want to buy the Runner Height Extenders. They add six inches of height.

However, the extenders don’t have mirrors. Instead, they’re available in three different types of gray/green camouflage. While the extenders help keep your body concealed, the fact they don’t reflect the surroundings does somewhat defeat the purpose of the blind.

Finally, the last issue I have with the Ghostblind is how frequently I wind up needing to clean it. Dirt and debris help a traditional blind blend in with the scenery. But if the mirrors on the Ghostblind get too dirty, they won’t be able to reflect the surrounding area accurately.

You’ll need to hose down the blind and then use a soft cloth to wipe it dry . You’ll want to clean the blind before every hunting trip. Plus, you might need to wipe down the reflective surfaces throughout the day if the weather is humid. Otherwise, the mirrors can fog over and make it difficult to see.

Cons Summary

  • Requires hunters to sit on the ground
  • Height is a short 26 inches
  • Not designed for bowhunters
  • Requires frequent cleaning

What Other Customers Say

Opinions on the Ghostblind seem split. Generally, people appreciate the unique mirrored design. Also, I found plenty of comments praising the  easy setup and overall portability .

However, the unique design also presents unique challenges. Hunter Adam K. points out that the blind requires matching cover behind you. Otherwise, a line of grass, snow or other ground will appear to float in the sky. But in the right location, you’ll disappear more completely than practically any other type of blind.

The  biggest complaints by far relate to the blind’s shortness . Justin B. says he’s only five foot six, but his shoulders tower over the blind when sitting. Andrew T. agreed, saying the blind was much shorter than he expected.

Pay close attention and ensure that there aren’t any parts missing. Jamie F. said his blind didn’t arrive with tent stakes or a bungee. Fortunately, this wasn’t a common complaint.

Wrapping Up

There’s nothing else like these blinds. The unique reflective construction is truly one-of-a-kind. No matter what the location or season, this blind allows you to blend in with ease.

Plus,  setup and portability are incredibly easy . It’s a great choice if you want to move around from spot to spot throughout the day. You’ll stay concealed even if the weather or light conditions change drastically.

The biggest shortcoming with this blind is its shortness. Most hunters will need to buy the non-mirrored extension panels. Also, this blind  isn’t very useful for bowhunters . It also leaves your back exposed. However, we’ve found an easy for for that.

To cover your back, we recommend pairing the GhostBlind with this light, affordable blind:

But if you’re looking for an alternative to the traditional blinds, the reflective panels of the Ghostblind have a lot of benefits including  adaptability, portability, and durability . It’s easy to see why so many hunters prefer the mirrored design of this blind.

  1. My ghost blind runner extensions are the same as the blind – mirrored on one side, camo on the other. They match perfectly.
This blind is the ultimate. While turkey hunting last fall, I had an eight point buck in front of me within 50 yards. He had no idea I was there for an hour and a half till I sneezed.
